Linux-aware debugger supports multi-core ARM

American Arium announced a new version of its SourcePoint debugging software for ARM's CoreSight environment. The Linux-aware SourcePoint 6.6 debugger supports traces on multiple Embedded Trace Macrocells (ETMs), and can debug targets incorporating heterogeneous ARM processors, says Arium. (more…)

Linux gains new architecture support

[Updated Apr. 28] — Dozens of network-attached storage (NAS) servers and other consumer appliances will gain mainline kernel and Debian GNU/Linux support soon. Multi-core firewall boasts multi-gigabit throughput

Lanner Electronics has introduced a network appliance platform claimed capable of network throughputs up to 2Gbps. The MR-550 is available with one or two Cavium Octeon 3120 processors, each featuring 1-2 MIPS64 cores along with acceleration engines for encryption, QoS, networking, and TCP. (more…)

Debian Linux powers science education device

An education supplies company has announced a portable science education computer that runs embedded Debian Linux. Pasco says it designed its sensor-equipped Spark Science Learning System for collaborative science experiments by students, for example measuring conductivity or tracking temperature changes. Customizable DMA controller ships with Linux drivers

QuickLogic is supporting Linux initially on a UDMA66 controller for video-enabled, hard-drive equipped mobile devices. The controller is implemented as an intellectual property block meant for deployment on the company's customizable I/O controllers, which are based on tiny, low-power field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Low-cost IP camera design comes with Linux

Texas Instruments (TI) and Micron's Aptina Imaging division have teamed up on an ultra-low-cost WXGA IP camera reference design for surveillance applications. The DM355IPNC-MT5 design runs Linux on a $10 TI DaVinci RISC/DSP digital media processor, and has an eBOM under $40, the companies claim. (more…)

Arrow Electronics's North American Components (NAC) division says TimeSys's “LinuxLink” subscriptions can help developers streamline development of their own commercial-grade custom Linux platforms. FPGA vendor rev’s design suite

[Updated Mar. 25] — Xilinx has upgraded its design suite for field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Intended to the span logic, DSP microcode, and embedded software development phases of FPGA design, the ISE Design Suite 10.1 yields faster runtimes thanks to improved encryption, and also adds support for distributed “implementation runs,” the company said.
