“Real-time” Linux distro tapped for enterprise VoIP

Red Hat has announced that its new “real-time” Linux distribution will be used by telecom equipment manufacturer Alcatel-Lucent in communications systems for the SME (small- and medium-sized enterprise) market. Red Hat “MRG” (messaging, realtime, and grid) ensures that real-time application threads run at the highest priority, and with minimal interruption, Red Hat said. (more…)

A small start-up based in Seattle has started selling a “self-support” tool for developers working with Java and/or Linux. WUSB chip gains Linux-based dev kit

Fabless semiconductor vendor Staccato Communications has shipped a development kit aimed at helping product designers add its WUSB (wireless USB) chips to mobile handsets, digital cameras, printers, portable media players, mass storage, and wireless audio/video devices. Free x86 router distro scales to 10Gbps

Vyatta announced that its Debian Linux-based x86 routing distribution can scale to environments running at 10Gbps. Vyatta says that PCs running the software can replace 10Gbps-capable systems from proprietary vendors, while costing “a small fraction” of what some vendors charge for 10Gbps add-in cards alone. IMS stack adds standards compliance

Sonus Networks has updated its IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) middleware stack for carrier infrastructure equipment based on Linux. Updates to the company's SIP (session initiation protocol) implementation and session control components bring compliance with 3GPP's Release 7 IMS specifications, and with SAForum high-availability specifications, the vendor said.
