A startup called Myka is accepting orders for a Linux-based device that downloads, stores, and plays BitTorrent media files on an attached TV. Myka's TorrentTV offloads BitTorrent peer-to-peer duties from a PC platform, easing the process of displaying “Torrents” on a TV.
Nokia announced a WiMAX version of its Linux-based Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. Aside from the new WiMAX radio, the WiMAX Edition appears to offer identical hardware to the original N810, but offers a pre-installed version of Nokia's new Linux-based “Tablet OS2008” operating system (OS).

The Linux Foundation (LF) has published a study on Linux mainline kernel development. According to LF, the number of Linux kernel developers has tripled since 2005, with many more companies contributing to the process (including, potentially, the latest new LF member, Adobe).
U.S.-based PC vendor Everex has announced plans to offer a WiMAX-enabled version of its mini-notebook. The “CloudBook Max” will feature a mobile WiMAX radio chip supplied by GCT Semiconductor, and will work with Sprint's high-speed XOHMwireless network, Everex said.
Xilinx is sampling what appears to be its most powerful FPGA (field-programmable gate array) yet. Designed for high-end communications applications such as wireless base-stations, the PowerPC 440-based Virtex-5 FXT FPGA is the fastest in the company's 65nm Virtex-5 line, with DSP performance of over 190 GMACs.
Via has announced a motherboard with an unusual 7.5 x 5.6 inch footprint, matching that of a standard optical disk drive. The NAS 7800 runs Linux on a 1.5GHz C7 processor, and targets storage devices with up to eight SATA drives.
