DRM firmware adopted by mobile Linux stack

A Tokyo-based vendor of embedded security technology says its DRM product will be ported to Access's Linux stack for mobile devices. Discretix says its Content Protection for Recordable Media Client offers software-based protection for music, video, and other premium content on SD cards and mobile handsets. (more…)

Tiny SBCs move to faster ARM9

Calao Systems is offering a faster ARM9 processor option across its line of tiny USB and QIL (quad in-line) processor modules, which come pre-installed with Linux and U-boot. It also announced a “TinyCore” module measuring 1.4 x 1.6 inches, significantly smaller than its existing products. (more…)

BIOS vendor promises simultaneous Linux, Windows sessions

BIOS giant Phoenix Technologies will ship a fast-booting, power-sipping, Linux-based environment equipped with Opera Software's embedded browser, the companies announced. Due in January, and targeting “mobile PCs,” Phoenix's “HyperSpace” product promises “instant-on” Internet access on mobile PCs, while the primary OS is booting, running, or shutting down, Phoenix says. Taiwanese embedded PC and appliance specialist AR Infotek is shipping a fanless, x86-compatible Linux system with top-mounted I/O connectors and external PC/104 expansion. The Pipal 2025 lets users add PC/104 modules without changing the system chassis, the company says. (more…)

Espian says its “Espian System Debugger” combines a hardware debugger, oscilloscope, and logic analyzer into a single small device both powered by and aimed at bring-up of TI OMAP3x-series RISC/DSP processors.
