Intel and Advanced Micro Devices held their respective market shares of the worldwide processor market in the second quarter, according to iSuppli. The market research firm described the ongoing competition between the chipmakers as an “epic competitive struggle.”
LaCie is shipping a network-attached storage (NAS) product users can share wirelessly. The LaCie Wireless Space can be purchased with 1TB or 2TB, and is equipped with an 802.11b/g/n access point, three gigabit Ethernet ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port, three USB 2.0 Host ports, plus UPnP/DLNA and iTunes support, says the company.

Viewsonic demonstrated a 10.1-inch, Android 2.2 “G-Tablet” that's bound for U.S. sales, powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2. Meanwhile, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless say they'll offer the Android 2.2-based Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet this fall.
Kontron announced a COM Express module using the four extended-temperature Atom E6xx processors released by Intel earlier this week. The nanoETXexpress-TT includes soldered-on memory, a microSD slot, and a Type 10 pinout, and it's designed to tolerate temperatures ranging from -40 to 185 deg. F, the company says.
Emerson Network Power announced a Nano-ITX motherboard that uses Intel's new E6xx Atoms in 600MHz and 1GHz versions, and runs MeeGo Linux. Always Innovating says its new “Mini Book” mobile internet device rides piggyback on a “Smart Book” tablet, which in turn can be plugged into a keyboard to become a netbook. Built using the 1GHz Texas Instruments DaVinci DM3730 processor, the modular, hackable devices are further claimed to switch between Android, Ubuntu, Chrome OS, and AIOS Linux distros at the touch of a button.
Avaya announced an an 11.6-inch WXGA tablet and docking station that runs Android, along with additional enterprise-focused videoconferencing products and services. Avaya Flare Experience runs on the Atom-based, tablet-like Avaya Desktop Video Device, and offers collaboration capabilities across video, voice and text, says the company.
Dell announced a version of its Dell Streak mini-tablet aimed at electronic medical record (EMR) applications, while Sprint and Calgary Scientific are prepping a version of the HTC Evo 4G with Calgary's ResolutionMD Mobile medical imaging software. Meanwhile, a major market for mobile healthcare is emerging, although federal regulations could be an obstacle, says eWEEK.
Advantech unveiled a PCI-104 SBC (single board computer) based on Intel's new Atom E6xx processors. The PCM-3364 offers CAN bus and half-size Mini PCI Express expansion, supports dual displays (CRT and LVDS), and is offered in an extended-temperature (-40 to 185 deg. F), the company says.

HTC announced two Android 2.2 smartphones with an upgraded HTC Sense UI layer and “HTCSense.com” connected services. The 4.3-inch HTC Desire HD is essentially an Evo 4G clone without the 4G, but adding a new 1GHz Qualcomm 8255 Snapdragon processor, while the 3.7-inch HTC Desire Z is a T-Mobile G2 twin, featuring an 800MHz processor and a QWERTY slider.
