The LaCie Wireless Space can be purchased with 1TB or 2TB, and is equipped with an 802.11b/g/n access point, three gigabit Ethernet ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port, three USB 2.0 Host ports, plus UPnP/DLNA and iTunes support, says the company.
The Wireless Space connects to existing Wi-Fi networks, becoming a wireless hard drive all users can share. In addition, the Wireless Space can also act as a 802.11b/g/n access point and a "full-featured" router, says the company.

LaCie did not list the embedded operating system for the device, but its previous NAS and media center devices — such as last year's d2 Network, Big Disk Network, and LaCinema Black Record — have all run on its embedded Linux "LaCix" distribution. The Wireless Space is said to support connections to networked PCs running Linux 2.6, Mac OS X 10.5/10.6, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
Measuring 7.6 x 4.6 x 1.8 inches (193 x 117 x 45mm), the device weighs two pounds (950 grams), says LaCie. Like a number of recent LaCie products, the Wireless Space is designed by Neil Poulton, and is engineered for natural heat dissipation and near-silent operation, says the company.

Stated Julien Ott, product manager for Network Attached Storage, LaCie, "There are a variety of network devices you need to buy to have a full solution to connect your computers, share media and back up your files. LaCie is thrilled to bring Wi-Fi connectivity to the Wireless Space and deliver a truly all-in-one solution for the varying different network needs of any home."
Availability
The LaCie Wireless Space is currently available in Europe, and will be available in the U.S. this October through the LaCie Online Store, LaCie Corner, and LaCie Reseller, for $230 (1TB) or $350 (2TB), says LaCie.
