Data scanned or keyed into the device by the user is transferred in real-time over an IEEE 802.11b WLAN network to a database located on a back-end server. The device contains an embedded computer based on an Intel SA-1110 processor with 16MB RAM and 4MB Flash, and runs the 2.4.17 ARM Linux kernel.
