MontaVista Software has added support for the IDT (Integrated Device Technology) 79EB438 evaluation board to MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 3.0, according to an announcement today by the two companies. The 79EB438 eval board is based on IDT's RC32438 Interprise communications processor, which targets networking and access device applications such as switches, gateways, wireless access points… (WAPs), and virtual private network (VPN) equipment.

According to IDT, the RC32438 system-on-chip is based on a 32-bit MIPS RISC architecture microprocessor core (with MMU) that supports up to 266 MHz clock rates. Other on-chip functions include a DDR memory controller, PCI bus controller, two 10/100 Ethernet MACs, two 16550-compatible serial ports, and a 10 channel DMA controller.

In addition to the RC32438 processor, the 79EB438 evaluation board provides four PCI slots, high density HP logic analyzer connectors, EJTAG/ICE connectors, real time clock with alarm interrupt and 8KB NVRAM, four digit display, 64MB DDR SDRAM, and Flash memories for boot and general usage.

The RC32438 processor is priced at $25 in 10,000-unit quantities, IDT said. MontaVista Linux Professional Edition for the IDT 79EB438 evaluation board is available now from MontaVista Software.
