Metro Link and OnCore Systems have formed a strategic alliance aimed to provide a real-time Linux based graphical solution to customers in mission-critical avionics applications requiring robust platforms and FAA RTCA/EUROCAE DO-178B certification. The collaboration will be based on the combination of Metro Link's X Window System server, Micro-X, along with the OnCore Operating System in its embedded… Linux and UNIX capacities.

Both OnCore and Metro Link have had prior experience in avionics applications, including software contributions to the Boeing 777 and the 767 AWACS. Metro Link plans to leverage OnCore's experience in the avionics/aerospace industry in attaining FAA RTCA/EUROCAE DO-178B certification, according to Morgan Von Essen, President and CEO of Metro Link. “Our strategic alliance will provide customers with one of the few complete solutions for the avionics community,” said Von Essen.

Chip Downing, President and CEO of OnCore Systems, said “both Metro Link and OnCore have a strong presence in military and avionics software market, and we are announcing the intent to work together to develop complementary products to address this market for mutual customers. Exact product and project details will be announced as they are released.”

“We are discussing jointly bringing an Avionics product to market. [Their] experience in getting solutions certified for DO-178B Level A and bringing these solutions to market is well known throughout the avionics industry. We will be working closely with OnCore to provide our Micro-X as an easily certifiable DO-178B graphics hosting solution,” said a Metro Link representative.
