AP: IBM Taps Software Maker (Trolltech) for New Devices
Feb 13, 2003 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsThe Associated Press news service reports on IBM's recent announcement of their decision to include Trolltech's Linux-based Qtopia software suite within future handheld devices, and that Trolltech has “received an undisclosed, upfront payment for the deal,… said to be worth $10 million to $20 million in license fees over the next three years,” according to Trolltech spokeswoman Tonje Sund.
LinuxDevices.com noted the inclusion of Qtopia as part of our coverage of IBM's new Linux/Java PDA reference design which was unveiled at LinuxWorld in New York last month. Qtopia is also a key component of the software environment used in Sharp's Zaurus family of Linux/Java PDAs.
We also found this interview with Trolltech CEO Haavard Nord at LinuxPlanet somewhat interesting. Nord says, among other things, “Qtopia will be part of any Linux-based platform IBM creates.”
