BlueCat Linux 2.0 Scoops French Award
Jun 26, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsElectronique magazine, the premier French electronics journal, has named LynuxWorks Inc.'s BlueCat Linux as the “most significant development in embedded tools and software” as part of the magazine's “Electron d'Or” awards for the past year. The award is based on a poll of tools users.
In their citation, Electronique said, “Combining the reliability of Unix and the open source low distribution cost, the BlueCat Linux operating system is a version of Linux specially tailored for use in embedded systems. It is based on the Red Hat 6.1 distribution, containing the Linux 2.2 12-20 kernel. This environment allows the cross-development of embedded applications with a simple PC running Red Hat.”
Commenting on the Electron d'Or award, LynuxWorks Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Albert McCabe said, “It is a particular honor to receive an award based on the first release of a completely new product. I believe our success in the development of BlueCat is due to our decade of experience with the Linux-compatible LynxOS real-time operating system. The fact that French users rate BlueCat so highly already has to be regarded as significant not only here in
Europe, but world wide too.”
LynuxWorks has just released BlueCat 2.0, which includes a memory sizing tool generating sampling reports of the amount of used and free memory in a target system, and an enhanced software debugger for use on device drivers and kernel modules. The latest release of the open source operating system, specifically designed for use in embedded computing applications, can be booted from ROM or Flash, and supports M-Systems' DiskOnChip.
