Bluetooth simulator and development tool beta announced

Dec 12, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 22 views

Dublin, Ireland — (press release excerpt) — Rococo Software today announced the launch of the beta program for its Bluetooth simulator and the world's first standards-based Java tool for developing Bluetooth applications.

Impronto Simulator runs Java applications in a simulated Bluetooth environment, allowing developers to simply test and configure applications before deploying them on Bluetooth devices. By using Impronto Simulator, developers can test Bluetooth applications without investing in costly hardware and Bluetooth stacks. The simulator is 100% Java and supports standard Java APIs for Bluetooth technology.

Impronto Developer Kit (DK), is a standards-based Java tool designed to make building Bluetooth applications easy by hiding complex Bluetooth protocols behind standard Java APIs. A wireless application written with Impronto will run on any standard Bluetooth Java platform without making changes to the code. Impronto DK works in J2ME and Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) and includes a common interface to underlying Bluetooth stack technology. Impronto DK runs on Red Hat Linux and PalmOS and will be delivered for IPAQ later this year.

Impronto Simulator and Impronto DK are available as part of a beta program. For more information, email [email protected] Pricing will be announced when the products are available for sale in March, 2002. However, it is expected that the cost of Impronto Simulator and Impronto DK (bundled together) will be under US$3000.
