Board/system vendor launches embedded Linux SDK, support
Dec 7, 2005 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsEmbedded board- and system-maker Win Enterprises has added embedded Linux development tools and support to its product portfolio. The company's “Win Linux Support Program” aims to supply OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) with Linux tools, filesystems, and embedded Linux support for the company's Pentium M and AMD Opteron based products.
Win describes itself as a “product development company” with facilities in the US, Taiwan, China, Italy, and India. It says it designs and manufactures x86-based embedded systems, controllers, and motherboards as reference designs for semiconductor vendors, and as product designs for OEMs in a variety of markets. Win's recent Linux-friendly designs include a Debian-powered, quad-core Opteron “System Host Board”, a compact Pentium/Celeron M SBC with a massive heatsink (pictured at right), and a 1U rackmount P4 network appliance platform featuring six gigabit Ethernet ports.
Win says its Linux support program provides OEMs with a Linux 2.6 SDK (software development kit), access to downloadable Linux filesystem images in CompactFlash and CD-ROM formats, automated software updates, and fee-based consultancy and support programs.
CEO Chiman Patel said, “Linux is becoming the de facto standard in the x86 embedded OEM marketplace.”
Availability
Win's Linux OEM “Testing Images” are freely distributed. Its Linux SDK is priced at $995. Telephone support is priced at $2,995 for ten days, or $30,000 per year.
