Linux PDA vendor Empower Technologies has obtained funding through the Canadian stock market, and will launch a new product this Fall. Empower's PDAs are based on Palm-compatible hardware and a customized uClinux OS. They are distributed online for $99 and through Best Buy/Futurestore in Canada for $129 Canadian.

Empower is a publicly traded company in Canada, traded under the symbol EPT on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Prior to going public, the company issued 1,200,317 warrants entitling holders to purchase Common Shares at $0.35. The company reports that all outstanding warrants were excercised prior to the August 8 deadline, bringing in $420,111 Canadian and resulting in the issuance of 1,200,317 shares.

Empower's Linux-based PDAs are currently not available in retail outlets in the US, but the company expects that will change this Fall after it unveils a new product at the Linux World Expo, Oct. 29 – 31 in Frankfurt, Germany, a company spokesperson said.
