“Qseven” COM standard builds on MXM

A consortium called Qseven has released a specification for a Computer-On-Modules (COM) standard that incorporates the MXM (Mobile PCI Express Module) format's finger connector. Led by Congatec, MSC Vertrieb, and Seco, the 14-member group is aiming its Qseven spec at mobile devices using 45nm-fabricated processors. (more…)

Debian COMs connect via MXM

Embedian has announced two computer-on-modules (COMs) and a baseboard that connect via an MXM (Mobile PCI Express Module) connector. The MXM-8310 and MXM-8110 run Debian on a PXA320 (Monahans-P) processor, and offer interfaces for Ethernet, USB, TFT LCD, RS232, CF, and IDE. (more…)

Linux-ready probes support networking multi-cores

Swiss hardware tools vendor Abatron announced that its Linux-friendly hardware debug probes now support Cavium's Octeon and Octeon Plus processors. Linux micro-server monitors nets

Japanese micro-server specialist Plat'Home announced U.S. availability of a Linux-based micro-server that monitors networks and servers for failures. The heat-resistant Kanshi BlockS Pro measures 4.5 x 3.2 x 1.5 inches and can monitor up to 253 servers, says Plat'Home. (more…)

Multi-core SBC boasts EPIC proportions

Ampro Computers announced two EPIC-format single-board computers (SBC) that ship with the company's Ubuntu-flavored Linux distro. The Intel Core Duo-based ReadyBoard 830 will ship in August, while the ruggedized ReadyBoard 820 is shipping now, says Ampro. (more…)

Dual quad-core ATCA blade supports Linux

Emerson Network Power (ENP) announced a multi-core AdvancedTCA (ATCA) blade that supports 10Gbps throughput. The Linux-compatible ATCA-7350 houses two quad-core Intel Xeon processor, and is aimed at media server applications in IPTV and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) broadband networks, says ENP. (more…)

Linux-friendly SoCs target low-end multimedia

Renesas announced two highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) processors based on its 32-bit RISC architecture. Aimed at low-end multimedia applications, the SH7262 and SH7264 processors each boast SuperH cores clocked at 144MHz, a 1MB SRAM buffer, 18 to 20 peripheral functions, plus support for VGA-size TFT LCD panels, says Renesas. 65nm ARM9 SoCs target PNDs, smartphones

Samsung says it is now sampling two new ARM9-based application processors that support Linux. Targeting smartphones, PDAs, and PNDs (personal navigation devices), the S3C2416 and S3C2450 feature on-chip 2D graphics accelerators, UARTs, LCD controllers, audio interfaces, USB, and a variety of memory support, says Samsung. Motorola Ming A1600 ships
