Bluetooth module plugs into embedded Linux apps

Socket Communications, Inc. (Fremont, CA) has announced a miniature device that will make it easy for developers to add Bluetooth wireless connectivity to intelligent mobile devices and embedded systems. Socket, a maker of I/O interfaces that connect via CompactFlash slots, has already demonstrated a Bluetooth adapter plug-in card compatible with the popular CompactFlash standard (photo). (more…)

Lucent releases device boot software as open source

Ed Sutter has worked with embedded systems for about 15 years, and over the last few years has written code to boot dozens of differing hardware platforms. Those platforms ultimately hosted VxWorks, Nucleus, pSOS, uC/OS, and other embedded operating systems. In an effort to avoid continually reinventing the wheel, Sutter decided to develop a common boot platform for embedded devices: MicroMonitor. (more…)

MIPS processors gain real-time Linux support

Rubis Technologies has announced the initial release of SRLinux, which the company claims represents the first embeddable real-time Linux kit for MIPS processors. Red Hat rocks the cradle, with Linux/eCos combo

Cradle Technologies has selected Red Hat to create a comprehensive suite of software support for Cradle's new “universal microsystems” (UMS) processor chips. New browser dev kit supports Embedded Linux apps

RTAI project releases version 1.6

The RTAI project has released Version 1.6 for Linux 2.2.16 and 2.2.17. Beside some minor fixes, it contains:

  • Improvements in the dynamic memory manager.
  • POSIX conditional variables timed waits.
