Lindon, UT — (press release excerpt) — Lineo, Inc. has announced availability of Embedix UI, a simple HTML user interface and micro Web browser. The UI support module integrates easily with the Lineo Embedix SDK, providing developers a way to quickly customize the operating system kernel to add user interface and Web browsing capabilities to support an embedded device.

Embedix UI has support for Internet and networking capabilities, including full support for HTML 3.2 and a majority of HTML 4.0, JavaScript 1.3, cookies, caching, international character display and the option for SSL 2.0 and 3.0 encryption technology. Additionally, it features a software keyboard, printing capability, infrared support, and anti-aliased font rendering for improved display of content on both TV screens and LCD panels. Embedix UI also provides support for automatic software updates, giving OEM's the ability to create and update content at multiple devices simultaneously.

Despite its full set of features, the Embedix UI has only a 1.5MB executable footprint, but can be scaled to be as small as 680K. Because it is based on the easily understood and widely used HTML standard, it eliminates the high costs of development and programming that typically accompany the use of traditional embedded GUI toolkits.

Embedix UI begins shipping today at a list price of $1,500 which includes 30 days of installation support.
