Updated: Jul. 1 — Some exciting new changes have come to LinuxDevices as we transition to a new publishing system. Meanwhile, please bear with our temporary lack of a search function, as the spiders work their way through a decade of stories on embedded Linux.

This week you may have noticed some changes to LinuxDevices as we further the site's integration with its fellow Ziff Davis Enterprise (ZDE) publications. LinuxDevices is the first of our "SourceForge" sites, which also include DesktopLinux, to switch over to the main ZDE content management system.

As a result of this transition, the site will enjoy greater sharing of resources and potential integration with ZDE publications including eWEEK and DevShed. In the process, there have some been minor adjustments to the appearance of LinuxDevices, with more modifications to come later in the year.

The changes also include some useful new features, starting with a reader rating system for all stories. Also found at the top of every page is a Bookmark and Share box that offers easy forwarding of stories to a variety of social networking sites and web communications technologies. In addition, the site offers a redesigned Forum section that offers more streamlined access to reader comments.

As always, LinuxDevices continues to offer its Articles section, full of tutorials, white papers, and opinion columns. The Linux Devices Showcase, meanwhile, provides one paragraph blurbs and links to recent stories on embedded Linux products in categories including netbooks, MIDs, smartphones, audio/visual gear, robots, and much more.

In the process of the transition, we have temporarily lost our integrated search capability. Please bear with us as we wait several weeks for the search spiders to crawl through our decade-long archive of embedded Linux news stories. (Yes, there was such a thing as an embedded Linux industry long before Android, the Kindle, and the Palm Pre.)

While we wait for the indexing to be completed on the new search function, you can find our stories by going to search sites such as Bing, Google and Yahoo, then entering the command site:linuxfordevices.com as part of your search. (Note, for now, anyway, remember to include the "for" in the name, as "site:linuxdevices" does not bring up as many entries.)

Despite the recession, the embedded Linux world seems to be rolling along at a rapid pace, as the corporate, industrial, and consumer worlds increasingly realize the benefits of open source embedded technologies. We hope you'll stick around with us as the ride continues - and that you'll forgive us for a few bumps as we make the transition.
