Communications and I/O board maker adds Linux support

Liberty, SC — (press release) — Sealevel Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of communications and I/O cards for industrial, laboratory, and embedded systems, today announced the addition of Linux support for it's line of UART based serial I/O cards.

The Linux driver and utilities support Sealevel's PCI and ISA bus, PCMCIA, and PC/104 asynchronous serial I/O adapters. Support is included for advanced UARTs, providing increased buffer sizes up to the 16C950 UARTs' 128 byte FIFO. This increased buffer size reduces processor interrupts and allows larger blocks of data to be processed than with traditional UARTs.

Dave Pratt, Director of Product Marketing at Sealevel Systems, Inc states, “Working closely with Linux gatekeepers and our in-house software team has allowed us to achieve our goal of providing high quality serial ports for the Linux O/S that are simple to install, and use.”

“Unlike many of today's operating systems, Linux does not exhibit latent interrupt handling” continues Pratt. “Linux places only required elements in the kernel, which makes the operating system extremely efficient. Features such as these are enabling Linux to gain a widespread user base. Source code is not protected by a parent company as with many of today's popular operating systems. Rather, source code is readily available and support is provided through a worldwide network of newsgroups and list serves, further enhancing the growth of the operating system.”

Sealevel Systems, Inc. will place links to Linux FTP sites on the company's web site, which also contains comprehensive product information, technical specifications, and other information relating to serial communications and I/O.
