Kontron has upgraded its CompactPCI (CPCI) single-board computer (SBC) to Intel's new 1.8 GHz Pentium M 745 processor. The 1.8 GHz Pentium M offers performance equivalent to a 2.8 GHz “Office Intel Pentium Processor,” but it can be passively cooled because power dissipation is reduced by roughly 50 percent, according to Kontron. The board supports embedded Linux, as well as several other embedded OSes.

The CP306 supports 2MB of L2 cache, double that of the earlier 1.1 and 1.6 GHz versions, and supports up to 1GB of onboard DDR-SDRAM/PC333 memory with ECC. Additionally, the board supports a number of input/output interfaces including, Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbit), four USB 2.0 ports, and up to four COM ports, and Kontron says it can enhance the peripheral interfaces upon request using rear I/O modules.

The unit is available in either a single slot (4HP) or a dual slot (8HP) version that includes a 2.5-inch HDD carrier.

With both processor and memory soldered directly to the board, the CP306 is said to be suitable for use in harsh environments. An optional extended temperature version operates from -40°C to +85°C.
