SBS Technologies is shipping a 3U CompactPCI SBC (single-board computer) with conductive and convective coolring options. The CV1 is based on a Freescale “G4” PowerPC processor, has a PMC (PCI Mezzanine Card) site for expandability, and comes with Linux drivers. It targets mil/aero applications such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

According to SBS, the CV1 can function as a standalone system, or as an processor card for 3U CompactPCI equipment. The company says the card's small size (100 x 160mm) will enable it to meet requirements for compact military computing devices.

The CV1 is based on a Freescale MPC7447A or 7448 “G4” processor clocked up to 1GHz. It also includes a Marvell Discovery III MV64460 system controller. It has 128MB of Flash, 256MB of DDR SDRAM, and a 32-bit PMC site with I/O lines to the backplane. Additional interfaces include RS-232 and RS-422/485 serial ports, and 10 programmable I/O lines to the backplane.

Additional details are available from SBS (registration required).

Wayne McGee, who manages SBS's North Carolina SBC design center, said, “The small footprint of the 3U CV1 PowerPC single board computer solves the challenge of fitting a rugged high-performance embedded computer into the limited space available in many military and commercial applications.”

Availability

The CV1 is available now, priced at $2,200 with Linux, VxWorks, and SBS Ready Driver support.
