Debug toolmaker offers i.MX21 Linux dev kit
Jul 28, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 viewsAmerican Arium says it will offer a Linux development kit for Motorola's i.MX21 mobile applications processor. The LC-500MX21 kit, to ship at an unspecified date, will include Arium's LC-500 JTAG emulator, Linux-hosted SourcePoint debugger software, GNU tools, and an i.MX21 application… development system board from Freescale.
Freescale's i.MX21 is a highly integrated mobile applications processor targeting portable media players, video IP phones, wireless PDAs, and many other mobile wireless applications.

Arium says its LC-500 JTAG probe emulator and SourcePoint debugging software enable “full symbolic, source-level debugging,” of Linux kernel code, applications, loadable kernel modules, and shared libraries. Users can launch or attach to processes with seamless transitions to and from the kernel and each process, Arium claims. Additionally, the SourcePoint debugger can “host” Linux console devices, a great feature for debugging “headless” systems.

Other touted features of Arium's i.MX21 Linux development kit include:
- Software and hardware validated with Linux
- Simple installation and configuration
- Readable documentation
Arium VP Jeff Acampora stated, “Working closely with Freescale, we have developed a kit [that] delivers one of the easiest and most meaningful ways to get started with embedded Linux.”
Monica Hamilton, director of wireless developer relations at Freescale, stated, “Linux continues to expand across a wide spectrum of applications and markets. American Arium provides feature-rich tools for the development of flexible, media-centric solutions.”
