This brand new release has many improvements in performance and usability.
The initial Radeon DirectFB support accelerates solid filling/drawing and blitting with or without color keying.
Another great improvement is the ability to switch consoles while a DirectFB session is running.
The multi application core supports multiple sessions running at the same time now (multi application worlds). It enables multiple users to login and use a DirectFB desktop, e.g. using XDirectFB for an X11 based desktop environment along with native DirectFB applications like DFBTerm or the transparent CPU load overlay.
Please visit the DirectFB web site for a complete list of changes or more information about DirectFB itself.
About DirectFB (from the DirectFB.org website)
DirectFB is a thin library that provides hardware graphics acceleration, input device handling and abstraction, integrated windowing system with support for translucent windows, and multiple display layers on top of the Linux Framebuffer Device. It is a complete hardware abstraction layer with software fallbacks for every graphics operation that is not supported by the underlying hardware. DirectFB adds graphical power to embedded systems and sets a new standard for graphics under Linux.
