Tel Aviv, Israel — (press release excerpt) — Araneo Ltd., a developer of IP TV platforms for enabling real-time video on demand, will demonstrate its innovative streaming TV solution in the IBM Microelectronics booth (Stand F10) at the upcoming Mediacast 2002 show, which will take place on May 21-23 at the ExCel Center in London's Docklands.

Araneo will be demonstrating its IP TV platform using IBM's advanced single-chip set-top box (STB) controllers, incorporating a powerful IBM PowerPC processor and MPEG subsystem. Solution highlights include Ethernet and DVB interfaces, full PVR (personal video recording) functionality, browsing and e-mail from Espial, MontaVista's Linux operating system, and full Java Virtual Machine (JVM) functionality. Compatibility with Concurrent's Video-On-Demand (VOD) servers will also be demonstrated at the show.

Araneo's IP TV platform, which is driven by IBM's STB03xxx and STB04xxx integrated controllers, receives MPEG video streams that are delivered over DVB or IP, and played directly on televisions. Using highly integrated devices, the platform provides a powerful PowerPC405 core, high-density memories, a fast 100 MBit Ethernet interface and hardware decoding of video and audio streams including lip synchronization.
