Embedded Linux Consortium announces new membership structure

Santa Rosa, CA — (press release excerpt) — The Embedded Linux Consortium (ELC) is launching a new membership structure designed to propel the organization forward in its missions of evangelization, promotion and standardization. Members are receiving telephone calls from various ELC Board members who are helping explain the structure. It includes a new, economical non-voting member category labeled Corporate Counselor. Although the structure calls for higher dues to finance mission activities, members are being presented with certificated offers for substantial discounts on marketing (advertising), made available by several publishers. “For many members, these discounts will completely offset the cost of membership,” said Murry Shohat, ELC Executive Director.

“Through the solidarity of membership, the ELC can provide both the voice and the volume needed for Linux to compete as an embedded OS,” added Shohat. “Linux is unique in that no one vendor can dictate content, direction, API's, licensing requirements or conformance. It takes an open source friendly consortium like the ELC.”

Details on the new structure may be downloaded as a PDF file. Or, you are invited to request a membership kit from [email protected].
