Known as the SnapGear PRO+ the unit will be shipping as early as April and expected to retail for US$849.
Targeted directly at business and enterprise customers the new router presents the ability to switch to a conventional modem connection in the event of an ADSL or Cable outage.
According to Miles Gillham, VP Marketing, “The earlier models (LITE, LITE+, SOHO+, PRO) all have uClinux inside. The PRO+ is based on an AMD SC520 processor which has a built-in MMU, so the developers were able to adapt the standard Linux 2.4 kernel.”
