San Jose, CA — (press release excerpt) — a board support package (BSP) for MontaVista Linux Professional Edition is now available for the new Xilinx Virtex-II Pro ML300 development platform, enabling developers of embedded Linux based products to target a completely programmable, re-programmable, and field-upgradable system platform.

The Xilinx ML300 evaluation platform enables designers to accelerate the development of systems using the company's Virtex-II Pro FPGAs with the IBM PowerPC family of processors. The integration of the Virtex-II Pro hardware platform with MontaVista Linux yields a flexible design environment in which engineers can lower product costs and accelerate their time to market. Additionally, it offers the ability to reconfigure, enhance, and optimize those designs throughout the entire product development life cycle.

The ML300 evaluation platform provides hardware, software, debug and design tools, IP cores, and an extensive set of reference designs. The evaluation platform includes the ML300 hardware platform, Virtex-II Pro FPGA, power supply, cables, hardware development tools, debugging tools, intellectual property cores and device drivers, embedded software development tools, example operating systems, tutorials, documentation, and several reference designs that can be implemented immediately.

MontaVista had previously announced a port of MontaVista Linux to the Virtex-II Pro FPGA family.
