Jul 11, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Lineo Inc. and Hitachi Semiconductor have announced plans to port Lineo's Embedix Linux software to Hitachi's SuperH RISC microprocessors. The collaboration will support makers of intelligent mobile devices, Internet appliances, and other embedded systems, including such products as smart phones, e-commerce terminals.

Hitachi SuperH processors are used in Sega Dreamcast game consoles, HP Jornada handheld devices, and many car information systems. “Hitachi knows that Linux by nature makes an excellent embedded software platform,” said Ali Sebt, VP of product business units, Hitachi Semiconductor (America).

Bryan Sparks, CEO of Lineo called the collaboration with Hitachi “proof that Linux is an excellent operating system for all kinds of embedded devices [that will] help automate the every day life of consumers.”
