Ethernet-based Network Storage — Reality or Pipe Dream?

LinuxDevices.com has published a new whitepaper about HyperSCSI, a networking protocol designed for the transmission of SCSI commands and data across a network.

What is HyperSCSI? Basically, HyperSCSI is intended to allow use of SCSI and SCSI-based devices over a network, just as though they are directly attached locally. Several months ago, the HyperSCSI protocol and reference implementation code were released into open source under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

This whitepaper introduces some of the key features HyperSCSI, explains how it is different from existing solutions, provides some benchmark test results, and suggests that the day of Ethernet-based storage is not coming soon — it's here now.
