Moxa announced a fanless, Intel Atom N270-based computer intended to be a network video recorder in railway and industrial applications. The V2416 includes two bays for hot-swappable disk drives, a CompactFlash slot, VGA and DVI-I video outputs, four serial ports, and dual gigabit Ethernet ports with M12-type connectors, the company says.

Moxa's V2416 is obviously related to three Atom N270-powered railway computers the company introduced last October: the V2404, V2422, and V2426. Of these, it most closely resembles the V2426, which had essentially the same case, with a front panel offering dual trays for a variety of proprietary I/O modules.

On the V2416 (above) these trays are instead employed for two hot-swappable SATA hard disk drives (3.5-inch mechanisms are possible, we presume, though this wasn't stated). According to Moxa, the V2416 has 1GB of built-in RAM, with a 200-pin DIMM slot that accepts a further 1GB, and also includes an integral 2GB DOM (disk-on-module) for storing either Windows Embedded Standard 2009 or Linux operating systems.

The V2416 further includes a CompactFlash slot, protected by a screw-attached door. Also up front is audio I/O, VGA (resolution to 2048 x 1536 pixels) and DVI-I (resolution to 1600 x 1200 pixels) video outputs, 3.5mm jacks for audio I/O (line in, line out), and a PS/2 port, Moxa says.

In contrast to these standard connectors, the front-mounted gigabit Ethernet ports and USB 2.0 host port employ M12 connectors. The V2416's rear panel, meanwhile, has two additional USB 2.0 ports with Type A connectors, four serial ports (RS232/422/485) with DB9 connectors, and terminals for six digital inputs and two digital outputs, according to Moxa.

Moxa says the V2416 accepts input power ranging from 12 to 48VDC, with a consumption of approximately 26 Watts. The standard operating range is -13 to 140 deg. F, but wide-temperature variants (-40 to 158 deg. F) are also available, the company adds.
