Fanless panel PCs support 2.53GHz Core 2 Duos

Oct 1, 2010 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Axiomtek announced a pair of panel PCs featuring resistive touchscreens and support for Core 2 Duo or Celeron M processors. The 17-inch IFO2175-850-FL and 22-inch IFO2225-851 each include IP65-rated front bezels and overall IPX1 ratings, 1.3 megapixel webcams, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, multiple serial ports, and fanless operation, the company says.

This week's announcement of the IFO2175-850-FL and IFO2225-851 misleadingly touted them as members of a "new" IFO2000 series of panel PCs. In fact, two other models listed in the release, both featuring Atom N270 CPUs, were actually previously announced: The 22-inch IFO2225-830 model came out last month, and the 17-inch IFO2175-830 came out in May.

While similar to the above in many ways, the IFO2175-850-FL and IFO2225-851 (above) do appear to be new, or at least "new-ish." Instead of Atoms, they're designed to use Socket P processors ranging from the Celeron M on up to the 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, according to Axiomtek.

Both devices employ Intel's GM45 northbridge and ICH9M southbridge, allowing them to support DDR3 memory. Rather than being differently sized clones of one another, however, they appear to use different motherboards. As one example of this, the IFO2175-850-FL is said to accept up to 4GB of RAM, while the IFO2225-851 is said to support up to 8GB.

Starting with the obvious physical differences, however, we note that the IFO2175-850-FL has a 17-inch touchscreen (resistive), with a 380-nit brightness rating and a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. The IFO2225-851 has a 22-inch touchscreen, again resistive, with a 300-nit brightness rating and maximum 1680 x 1050 resolution, according to Axiomtek.

Axiomtek says the IFO2175-850-FL has a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive, room for an optional optical drive, and a 1.3-megapixel webcam. No expansion possibilities are cited, but the device is said to have two gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 2.0 ports, a PS/2 port, audio I/O, a VGA output, and two RS232 ports (a third serial port is optional).

Also featuring a microphone and speakers, the IFO2175-850-FL has a front bezel that meets IP65 standards for resistance to contaminants. The overall housing bears an IPX1 rating, meaning it can resist "water drips," the company adds.

The larger IFO2225-851 shares all the above characteristics, including room for a 2.5-inch hard disk drive, but also has a CompactFlash slot, according to Axiomtek. In addition, there's an optional PCI or PCI Express expansion slot, says the company.

On the IFO2225-851, the third serial port is a standard feature, and there are four USB 2.0 ports, says Axiomtek.
