A vendor of PCI-to-SD (secure digital) bridges will offer a free binary-only Linux SDIO driver stack in October. Jinvani Systech said its JSMIMC stack will include SDIO bus and SD/MMC storage drivers for Linux 2.6, along with a driver for its SD Gold PCI-to-SD card.

The stack may also include drivers for several commercially available SDIO WiFi cards and GPS drivers, the company said. It plans to release a “final list” of included drivers next month.

According to Jinvani, SD (Secure Digital)/SDIO support for Linux has been “very limited” due to SD Association licensing and IP protection requirements. It says its free binary-only stack will help SDIO card device driver developers write, test, debug, and integrate SDIO support “without having the need to develop an entire SDIO architecture from scratch.”

The JSMIMC stack appears meant for use with Jinvani's SD Gold host adapter card. Together, the stack and adapter card are said to support SD normal, mini, micro, high-speed, SDHC, MMC 3.x, and SDIO 1.1.

The free JSMIMC stack will be released in October, according to the company. The SD Gold host card is available now, priced at $700.
