Free online seminar on Embedded Networking Fundamentals
May 10, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsNETsilicon has announced a free online seminar series entitled Embedded Networking Fundamentals. The topic of the first session is: “Deriving IP addresses, MAC Addresses and Configuration Parameters in a Networked Device.” The session takes place Wednesday, May 18, 2000 at 2:00 pm Eastern Standard Time (US).
Abstract of first session
To web-enable an embedded device a key first step is the ability of the device to obtain configuration parameters at start-up. We will examine the impact of a MAC address in a networked product and discuss how to obtain the IP address, Subnet Mask, and gateway, primarily with DHCP. We will also analyze the operation of DHCP and alternative options.”
The seminar will be real-time and interactive. Attendees may send in questions (online) during the session, which the presenter will attempt to address before the conclusion of the session.
About the seminar series
Internet- and Ethernet-connected devices are the new wave of connectivity. From voice-over-IP telephones, to networked fitness equipment, to building and environmental controls, manufacturers are rapidly moving to add network connectivity. NETsilicon's Web Seminar Series, Embedded Networking Fundamentals, is designed to provide the information necessary to successfully embed network connectivity in your device.
The series is intended for design and development engineers, systems architects, and systems integrators who are investigating/considering an embedded networking project.
About the presenter
William Dowell joined NETsilicon in September 1998 as Field Applications Engineer. From 1997 to 1998, he designed embedded software for Raytheon Missile Systems. From 1996 to 1997, he was responsible for testing and integrating Fiber Optic Communications Equipment for Telecast Fiber Systems. Dowell holds a B.S.E.E. from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with an emphasis on communications and systems design.
