SBS Technologies has introduced a new “single site PMC module for full-duplex channelized DS3 connectivity” that comes with Linux drivers. The Maxim 921-DS targets edge routers and bandwidth aggregation devices.

The Maxim 921-DS offers connectivity at 44.736 Mbps, or up to 28 T1 lines. It supports multiple DS0s (up to 672) in clear channel, and can be used in fractional and channelized DS3 applications such as routers, switches, and wireless broadband and multi-service gateways.

The 32/64-bit, 33/66 MHz PCI card comes with front panel BNC connectors. An optional rear I/O module is also available.

SBS says the device minimizes host intervention and maximizes bus bandwidth for fast performance, and is especially effective for edge routing and aggregation.

“The Maxim 921-DS is a highly scalable DS3 connectivity solution that allows developers to use all 672 available DS0 channels with full channelization. Previous solutions have not offered the scalability or ease of configuration of the Maxim 921-DS,” said Charlie Tompkins, General Manager of Communications I/O.

The Maxim 921-DS is priced at $1,645, with Linux, VxWorks, and Windows XP drivers, as well as a modular Driver Development Kit (DDK).
