Geode EPIC SBC available in compact enclosure

German embedded board-maker Lippert is shipping its first single-board computer (SBC) in the EPIC form-factor. The Hurricane-LX800 is based on a 500 MHz AMD Geode LX processor, and is available in a compact, rugged enclosure. It supports embedded Linux, among other OSes, according to the company.

The Hurricane's 500 MHz Geode LX processor delivers high processing performance with very low power consumption, according to Lippert. The Geode-based SBC uses AMD's CS5536 I/O companion chip along with an ITE8712 “super I/O” chip to provide standard PC-compatible peripheral interfaces. The built-in graphics controller supports up to 1920 x 1440 VGA resolution. In addition, the board integrates eight channels of 8-bit analog input, plus a high-speed, 8-bit input port aimed at video capture applications.

Lippert lists the following key features and specifications for the Hurricane-LX800:

    • 2 RS232/RS422/RS485 serial ports
    • AC97 5.1-channel audio

    • high speed 8-bit input port with 300 Mb/s isochronous capture; supports VESA 1.1, 2.0, and BT.656 video

In addition to Linux, the board supports VxWorks, Windows XP Embedded, and Windows CE, Lippert said.

Pricing for the Hurricane-LX800 starts at $363 in quantities of 100. Delivery was not stated.
