Sunnyvale, CA — (press release excerpt) — MontaVista Software Inc. announced Hard Hat Linux (HHL) support for IBM's reference platform for the recently announced NP4GS3 network processor. The result is a comprehensive hardware/software platform that OEMs can use in developing, testing, optimizing performance, and… deploying NP4GS3-based high performance network systems including switches and routers.

IBM's PowerNP reference platform is an integrated hardware, software, and services platform, featuring a packet routing switch module along with a PowerPC control point microprocessor. It allows equipment manufacturers to configure a “real world” network switch or router environment to conduct thorough development, integration, and testing before building their products.

IBM's new copper-based NP4GS3 offers more efficient data and resource management capabilities, for delivery of new services such as streaming audio and video downloads. The NP4GS3 also provides deep packet processing support for OC-48, OC-12, gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet at media speed.
