High-rel FFS targets mobile Linux devices

The 4GR FFS uses patented “transaction point” technology to safeguard data, the company says. The filesystem supports Linux 2.6 and Windows Mobile 5.0, and comes with ready-made drivers for a variety of modern flash technologies and controllers.
Datalight says that patented transactional filesystem technology allows devices based on 4GR filesystems to boot quickly after unexpected power failures, recover user data, file metadata, and program code, and function without data loss. The new 4GR FFS evolved from its earlier “Reliance” and “Flash FX” transactional filesystems, it says.
Another key feature is a library of drivers supporting a wide variety of flash configurations and controllers. This library speeds integration time and offers hardware design flexibility, the company says.
Additionally, 4GR includes optimizations for mobile applications, such as support for hardware ECC (error correction code) units, for faster memory performance.
Product Manager Cortney Jacobsen stated, “4GR has pre-written drivers for hundreds of innovative flash technologies, including new hybrid flash and NAND controllers. The time that we have spent developing these drivers offers a tremendous resource savings.”
Availability
4GR will ship at the end of March, for Linux 2.6 and Windows Mobile 5.0. Additionally, an available RTOS Porting Kit can be used to port 4GR to other OSes, using POSIX function calls.
