Intel to unleash ‘Banias’ mobile uP in 2003 [eWeek]

Although adoption of Intel Corp.'s 64-bit Itanium has been slower than ideal, Intel chief executive Craig Barrett is pushing for wider use of the processor, reports Stan Gibson of eWeek.

The next three Itanium generations, which will include the processors code-named Madison, Deerfield and Montecito, are lined up and will be rolled out every 12 months, Barrett told Gibson.

Separately, Intel is set to launch a mobile processor, code-named Banias, in early 2003.
