Korean CE giant tilts toward embedded Linux

United Press International is reporting that Korean consumer electronics (CE) giant Samsung is adopting embedded Linux as a strategic advantage, and will build some 40,000 digital video recorders based on Linux this month.

The brief story adds that Samsung has already delivered mobile phones and other devices based on embedded Linux.

Market research from Strategy Analytics suggests Linux will dominate the set-top box (STB) market. Claimed Internet Protocol (IP) STB chip leader Sigma says it has sold more than a million DVD chips designed to run uClinux.
