Lineo adds embedded Java multimedia option to Embedix

Embedded features include a broad range of capabilities including 2D and 3D graphics, fonts, and streaming video and audio in devices such as smart phones,… set-tops, cameras and web pads. The solution also includes a strong emphasis on enabling manufacturers to differentiate by the incorporation of their own technologies on to the platform and the provision of on-screen branding.
“Tao provides a strong, credible, market-ready multimedia solution for running client Java,” said Bryan Sparks, CEO of Lineo, Inc. “Working with the Tao Group, Lineo will provide device manufacturers with Sun-certified Java technology to bring multimedia to all types of embedded solutions. The end result is consumers will gain additional functionality in smaller devices.”
The partnership between Lineo and Tao will integrate Lineo's engineering, support, sales, and embedded Linux expertise with the Tao intent software platform, creating the only solution that enables compelling Java content to meet user expectations across the broad range of client devices. The intent software platform is incorporated into several products to be released worldwide in 2001.
