Lindon, UT — (press release excerpt) — Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Lineo Inc. today formalized their joint venture under the name Lineo Korea.

“Establishing Lineo Korea is a strategic move to further strengthen our efforts with Samsung in establishing embedded Linux as the preferred operating system among device manufacturers worldwide,” said Bryan Sparks, CEO,
Lineo, Inc. “Since the establishment of the joint venture in October 2000, we have seen increased interest from many global device manufacturers in the areas of embedded Linux.”

The partnership between Samsung and Lineo was designed to provide embedded systems solutions to the Korean market in general, and to the Samsung group of companies in particular. With the establishment of Lineo Korea, efforts to provide embedded systems solutions may be pursued more vigorously. The Lineo Korea office will continue operation just south of Seoul. Currently, Lineo has offices in Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, and throughout Canada and the USA.
