Lineo announces major Korean partnerships

The two are: consumer product manufacturer Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co, Ltd.; and DaiShin Information & Communications Co., Ltd., a leading Korean IT company.
Samsung Internet appliances in the works
Samsung will use Lineo Embedix Linux as the operating system for a new line of embedded Internet appliances. This is Samsung's first Linux project. Representatives from Samsung and Lineo formalized this partnership at a ceremony on Thursday in Seoul, Korea. “This partnership is an important milestone for Samsung. With Embedix Linux on our devices, we will become a 'Total Component Solution Provider,' having both embedded system components hardware and embedded Linux software,” said Lee Hyung-Do, CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics.
Samsung will initially use Embedix Linux and Embedix Browser in PDAs and set-top boxes. The partnership also includes joint education, sales, and marketing efforts for the Korean and world-wide market. “Samsung is one of the top providers of consumer electronics and other embedded devices. This partnership will help to solidify Samsung and Lineo as the standard in the rapidly-growing embedded Linux market,” said Bryan Sparks, CEO of Lineo. Inc.
DaiShin plans broad Linux-based product strategy
DaiShin plans to use Lineo Embedix Linux and Lineo Embedix Browser as the embedded Linux software base for newly developed Internet appliances. DaiShin chose Lineo as its embedded Linux software partner to fulfill DaiShin's Linux strategy. This partnership includes an initial 400,000 Embedix licenses for wireless mobile devices, home networking, and industrial Internet appliances for the Korean and world-wide market.
