Lineo begins shipment of x86 embedded Linux SDK
Jun 5, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsLINDON, Utah — (press release) — Lineo, Inc., a leading developer of embedded Linux system software, today began shipping Embedix SDK for x86, a software development kit that simplifies the development of embedded devices and systems. This tool set allows developers to include only the components of Linux and other software needed for the specific solutions of Lineo's OEM customers.
Embedix SDK provides unique tools and technologies necessary for deploying Linux across the full range of embedded devices and systems, from tiny microcontrollers through multidisk backplane servers providing high availability services. The SDK is designed to reduce the system requirements, development time, and overall cost of deploying embedded solutions.
“Lineo is bolstering its position in the embedded Linux market with the delivery of the Embedix SDK,” said Bryan Sparks, CEO of Lineo, Inc. “Lineo believes open source technology is developing at a faster pace and is less expensive to implement and distribute than traditional proprietary embedded operating systems.”
Lineo Embedix SDK contains tools and customized Linux components for managing, configuring, optimizing, and deploying embedded software solutions. Among these tools is Embedix Target Wizard, a graphical configuration tool that allows OEMs to select Linux components, identify interdependencies, and automate the configuration of a small, highly-specialized software solution for embedded devices. Embedix Target Wizard also allows OEM developers to store customized configurations of embedded solutions, facilitating identical replication of the software for future support, enhancements, or product shipments.
Embedix SDK also ships with a complete version of a Linux development host operating system, as well as with CodeWarrior, an award-winning integrated development environment (IDE) from Metrowerks, a Motorola company.
The Embedix SDK is available immediately for $4995 for an initial development seat, which includes a one year upgrade and maintenance agreement. Multi-user licenses are also available. Embedix SDK is supported by Lineo's Professional Services division, which provides OEMs in Europe, North America and the Pacific Rim with options for receiving local language custom engineering, training and technical support.
