Dec 22, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 views

Lineo today announced the successful porting of the uClinux 2.4 kernel to the Motorola DragonBall family of processors. This development gives uClinux users access to numerous new features of the Linux 2.4 kernel, some of which include: USB support, IrDA, and QoS (quality of service) support.

uClinux is a port of the Linux kernel that was made popular by its ability to run on processors without memory management hardware, and with a typical kernel footprint of only 512K bytes or less. Earlier versions of the uClinux kernel support the Motorola 68k family including, DragonBall and Coldfire, ARM7TDMI, i960, and other MMU-less RISC based processors.

uClinux, an open source project licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL), is primarily sponsored by Lineo. Lineo will showcase the uClinux 2.4 kernel port next month at LinuxWorld in New York City.
