Houston, TX — (press release excerpt) — Texas Instruments (TI) has entered into an agreement with Jungo Software Technologies Inc. to support Jungo's Linux residential gateway software on TI's broadband cable modems. The two companies will demonstrate this technology at the upcoming California Cable Television Association's Western Show later this month.

The demonstration will highlight TI's new Bluetooth-enabled cable modem reference design (info) using Jungo's OpenRG (info) — a complete Linux-based residential gateway software platform. The demo includes TI's DOCSIS 1.1 code running on Jungo's Linux based operating system, as well as data over Bluetooth, Firewall, network address translation (NAT) virtual private network (VPN), web based management, simple network protocol management (SNMP) and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP).

OpenRG is a complete software solution with drivers, a Linux-based operating system, and broadband residential gateway applications including, Home Networking, NAT, Security, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), VPN, Zero Configuration Networking, and Network Management. These features combine to allow standard Integrated Access Device (IAD) to become a sophisticated revenue-generating appliance, mutually beneficial to the system vendor, the service provider and to the end user.
