Linux-based computer boasts router, switch

The Korenix JetBox 9300 is based on an ARM9-based Atmel 180MHz RISC processor, and includes a five-port Ethernet router and a lightweight managed switch.
Korenix dubs the JetBox 9300 an “industrial communications computer” and suggests it would be suited to remote, autonomous applications such as a vending machine computer. The JetBox 9300 can self-monitor vending-machine operations, including temperature and power status, says Korenix, and notify a remote computer when supplies or repair attention is required.

Based on Linux 2.6.21, the JetBox 9300 offers 64MB SDRAM, two USB 2.0 ports, two RS-232 ports, two RS-232/422/485 ports, four digital inputs, four digital outputs, one SD card slot, and a watchdog timer. The fanless, 2.6 x 5.9 x 4.7-inch, 1.5-pound computer is housed in a rugged, aluminum alloy chassis, says Korenix. The computer is said to offer anti-vibration and shock resistant protection, as well as IP30 protection against physical intrusion.
The JetBox 9300's router offers a combination of WAN and LAN connections, and supports advanced features like static routing, NAT (network-address translation), DMZ (de-militarized zoning), and firewalling. The switch is said to support management via SNMP (simple network management protocol) v1/ v2c/ v3, and to offer QoS (quality-of-service) and 802.1Q, port-based VLAN capabilities.
