VA Linux Systems Japan has released a version of its open source Linux kernel debugging tool that supports the x86-64 architecture. Mini Kernel Dump (mkdump) is a Linux-based mini-kernel that runs underneath the Linux kernel, providing a stable environment for capturing and dumping crash dump data. It previously supported IA-32.

According to VA, mkdump is a highly reliable crash dump feature that is part of a complete Linux fault analysis tool suite. VA and NTT announced mkdump for IA-32 in November of 2004, noting that support for other architectures was pending. With the new release, mkdump now supports IA-32, AMD64, and EM64T, VA says.

Mkdump is licensed under the GPL, and the project is website at SourceForge, where it is listed as beta software.
