Linux V2IP stack ported to DaVinci

Trinity Convergence has ported its Linux-based voice- and video-over-IP (“V2IP”) stack to the Texas Instruments DaVinci RISC/DSP architecture. The company says its VeriCall V2IP stack offers device makers proven software for videophones and surveillance/monitoring equipment requiring hi-fidelity audio and H.264 video.

Launched in 2003, VeriCall Edge is a mature product that supports VoIP on lots of standalone ARM9, PowerPC, and MIPS64 processors, as well as standalone DSPs, such as Freescale StarCore DSPs. One recent high-profile design win for the stack was Sony's currently shipping Linux-based Mylo communications device.

Trinity says its VeriCall stack for DaVinci can provide everything device developers need to create differentiated IP-based communications products. The stack comprises:

  • VeriCall Edge, an embedded IP communications software framework targeting devices from home automation gadgets to dual-mode handsets
  • VeriCall Video Phone Edition — Adds a GUI and user applications, such as an address book, presence, and IM

Additionally, Trinity says it is prepared to offer its “VeriCall Software Solution” for DaVinci. This more complete software reference implementation adds various other required components, such as a SIP (session initiation protocol), NAT traversal, security, and QoS (quality-of-service).

TI's worldwide business manager, Pradeep Bardia, stated, “Trinity's VeriCall [offers] a proven platform for IP video services.”

Trinity CEO Ajit Pendse added, “Direction from our OEM and ODM customers over the years has been clear — provide the ability to run on leading edge platforms.”

Availability

Trinity Convergence's VeriCall products are available initially for TI DaVinci products that include the TMS320DM6446 and TMS320DM6441.
