Low volume devices gain embedded Flash player
Jun 24, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsEmbedded Linux device makers wishing to license Macromedia's Flash player for use in low-volume devices can now do so, thanks to an agreement between Macromedia and embedded engineering services provider Vibren Technologies. The deal authorizes Vibren to resell Flash licenses in quantities as low as 1,000, the company says.
In addition to licensing and distributing Flash player, Vibren will offer Flash porting and verification services.
Prior to Macromedia's deal with Vibren, Macromedia offered embedded Flash licenses only in quantities over 100,000. Thus, the deal is expected to enable a broad range of low-volume device vendors to integrate official Macromedia Flash players in their gadgets.
Vibren VP Tom DeSisto said, “This agreement will help expand Macromedia Flash Player usage into all types of embedded devices, including PDAs, wireless and handheld systems, televisions and set top boxes, toys, and other embedded devices.”
