LynuxWorks reports growth in profitability and design wins

May 17, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

LynuxWorks has closed its books for fiscal 2004, announcing 21 percent year-over-year revenue growth, increased profitability and cash flow, and 165 percent design win growth, especially in the military/aerospace market. It is hiring engineers and sales/marketing people, targeting a 35 percent workforce increase over the next few months.

The privately held corporation first reported a positive cash flow in June, 2002. It laid off 15 percent of its staff in August, 2001, after withdrawing IPO plans in June, 2001.

According to LynuxWorks, Linux and other open standards continue to gain significant momentum in the government and military because they enable ease of application portability, software reuse, and interoperability between systems. LynuxWorks says all its products support open standards, such as POSIX, for increased interoperability and code reuse. Its proprietary but “Linux-like” LynxOS RTOS can also run Linux and VxWorks applications through binary compatibility layers, and became DO178B certifiable in March of 2003.

LynuxWorks reports that the consumer electronics market has also been an area of growth, especially for its kernel 2.6 based BlueCat Linux products, and its Java and Eclipse tools platforms.

“LynuxWorks will continue to offer extended value to developers with open-standard based tools as well as continued development of a secure RTOSes to meet the stringent requirements of the military and aerospace markets,” said CEO Dr. Inder Singh.
